Theory – Film 1 – Duck Amuck
Duck Amuck is an animated episode part of the looney tunes, starring Daffy duck as the main character in this cartoon. The Narrative is easy to follow as looney tunes is made as a children’s cartoon however with this particular episode I feel as though adults could enjoy this too. Daffy duck is a classic character well known for being quite stroppy and always wanting to be in the limelight, so this narrative plays to his characteristics well as it drive him crazy which is what makes the episode entertaining. In this narrative, we see daffy getting frustrated with whoever is drawing the cartoon as they don’t do things how he wants them. It is made to seem as though daffy is speaking to us and breaking the fourth wall makes it a much more personal and funny cartoon. A meta narrative had been created in order for the main character to set up a dialogue with the audience so it makes the audience feel as though we are the villain in the story.
Movement is kept lateral so it seems as though daffy is walking across paper which fits perfectly with the storyline of this episode with everything being painted and erased. With the sound design, when daffy moves location we get different sounds and music and responses from the character, so when daffy moves in to the farm scenery he begins to sign about himself being a farmer and he dresses appropriately in dungarees with the stereotypical look of a farmer and he does so with every setting.
Having Bugs bunny at the end changes the perspective for a last minute revelation to show that the audience were not the villain and it was in fact, bugs bunny, daffy’s main rival and also to give a bit of comic relief. Overall, to me this is a very orthodox animation style, as you can blatantly tell the characters and narrative, and to me this was very appealing.

Theory – Film 1 – The Big Snit
The Big Snit in a basic sense is a story about relationships and that seems to be the main theme of the short film. We enter the film to see a middle aged married couple playing scrabble, as the film progresses they begin to argue more and more until it gets unbearable for them. Meanwhile, there is a nuclear war going on outside unnoticed by the couple. This seems to show that no matter how much they fight and no matter what is happening in the world however bad, they are the most important things in each others life, and shows how strong their love is in the end when they open to door to heaven. They don’t care that they have died, all they care about is that they have each other and that makes life or death in this case continue to be normal for them and they reach an equilibrium.
It is nice to see a happy ending, with the photo reminding the husband of an old memory with his wife and reminds them that there are more meaningful things than arguing over scrabble. The husband and wife are typical characters being a generic middle aged married couple in having small squabbles and fit with the stereotypical gender roles with the wife hoovering and the husband sawing. For me, I think they did this to seem relatable for people to see themselves and their family in this story by not making them too different and remind them of the significant things rather than the bad.
Visually, The Big Snit is enjoyable to watch and entertaining with little jokes, such as the cat nearly getting sawed in half and how they animated the nuclear war. The nuclear war however seems to important in this film to highlight how unimportant their argument is against the war. This makes the film more watchable and lighthearted about serious issues reminding us to keep our loved ones close and think about the more crucial things. Its animated in a playful way, keeping everything pretty simple in order to focus on the actual story rather than the visual however the lines are quite exaggerated and this gives it a more childish but comical look. With regards to the sound, the voice actors worked well together with chemistry to make it seem real and to portray the arguments well, and the same with the screaming and car noises with the nuclear war where they made it over exaggerated and that worked well to lighten up the issue making a joke of it, in a way not to focus on the war but on the relationship. The mise en scene is kept simple for most things including the characters clothes, set and lighting and so on as it doesn’t want to distract away from the main theme and narrative. Overall, this short film works well to portray its themes and allows the audience to relate to it and I enjoyed the film.
